E.J. Manuel, the first quarterback taken in this year's NFL draft, will start Sunday for the Buffalo Bills, the team announced Wednesday.

Manuel looked on track to win the starting job this preseason before a knee injury sidelined him. He completed 26 of 33 passes for 199 yards and two touchdowns in the first two preseason games. But then he needed a "minor" procedure on his left knee and was ruled out for the rest of the preseason.

Kevin Kolb took over, but he suffered a concussion that ended his 2013 season. The Bills planned to start undrafted rookie Jeff Tuel if Manuel wasn't ready for the season opener against New England.
