Browns WR Davone Bess out final two games because of personal matter

The Browns placed Davone Bess, who has been dealing with a serious matter involving a relative in his hometown of Oakland, on the reserve/non-football illness list on Saturday, meaning he will miss the team's final two games — Sunday at the Jets and Dec. 29 in Pittsburgh — according to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

The move had nothing to do with illegal activities, a source told Cabot. However, Bess, who missed practice Thursday and Friday, posted a picture of himself on his Instagram account Friday possibly smoking marijuana. It was deleted shortly after it was posted.

In the picture, Bess is sitting outside on his deck lighting up, and there's a photo of Bob Marley next to him and he's wearing a Rasta flag around his neck.

Bess, 28, has been dealing all season with the family matter, and a source told Cabot it has taken a tremendous toll on him. Bess grew up in a rough section of Oakland and often worries about family members.

The six-year veteran, who's in his first season with the Browns after five in Miami, had a career-low 42 catches, 362 receiving yards and 8.6 yards per reception this season. He scored two touchdowns.
