The A's placed lefty Drew Pomeranz on the 15-day disabled list Thursday with a fractured right hand, the team announced.

The news comes less than 24 hours after the 25-year-old allowed a season-high seven earned runs in just 3 2/3 innings in Monday's 14-8 loss at home to the Rangers. Despite the poor performance, the third-year pitcher, drafted fifth overall by the Indians in the 2010 draft, has a 2.91 ERA with 48/23 K/BB ratio in 56 innings.

In a corresponding move, the A's recalled Evan Scribner from Triple-A and also acquired lefty Brad Mills -- for a dollar -- to potentially join the rotation.

Oakland is 42-28, first in the AL West, heading into their second game against the Rangers on Tuesday night.
