The Cleveland Browns finished last place in the AFC North in 2013 with a 4-12 record. This season, they welcome in a new coach in Mike Pettine as well as a potential new franchise quarterback, Johnny Manziel.
Manziel, whom the Browns selected with the No. 22 pick, won't start right away: Veteran Brian Hoyer was named the team's starter during the preseason. Hoyer won all three games he started last season, but a knee injury cut his season short.
Cleveland finished last season with seven straight losses. Last season was the sixth straight year in which the Browns finished with a losing record. Cleveland has not made the postseason since 2002.
Star receiver Josh Gordon will miss the entire season after being suspended by the NFL for violating the league's substance abuse policy. Gordon caught a 95 passes for 1,646 yards last season, both of which led the league. He also reeled in nine touchdown catches.
The Browns open their 2014 season with a road AFC North game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
