NEW YORK -- WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko is in serious negotiations for a fight with heavyweight contender Chris Arreola, Klitschko's manager, Bernd Boente, told SI.com.

Multiple media reports have indicated that Klitschko and Arreola have agreed to terms for a fight that would take place on Sept. 26. However, while the two sides have had discussions, Boente told SI.com in an e-mail Thursday that there is no deal in place.

"We haven't even exchanged contracts," said Boente.

Klitschko has been searching for a new opponent after a potential deal with former cruiserweight champion David Haye fell apart last week. Klitschko has been interested in fighting Arreola for some time now and believes a fight at the Staples Center in Los Angeles -- where Klitschko has a home and where the Mexican-American Arreola grew up -- would be a big draw.
