Report: Memphis to add father of three top recruits to staff
Lawson's oldest son, K.J. Lawson, is a four-star 2015 recruit ranked No. 43 in the country by 247Sports, and has already committed to Pastner and the Tigers. But Keelon Lawson said in May that if he were to get a job elsewhere, K.J. would follow, explaining that his Memphis-based family is very close-knit.
Lawson's next son, Dedric, is a 2016 five-star recruit ranked No. 10 in the country by 247. Dedric Lawson is considering both Memphis and Kentucky, but has already said that if his father were hired by Memphis, it would probably "seal the deal" for him to commit there.
The third son, Chandler, is a Class of 2019 small forward who is ranked No. 4 in the country by Future150.com. And finally, Lawson has a fourth son who is only in sixth grade but who has been described by a coach as the one who "may be the best of all of the brothers," according to Goodman.
Goodman says the move is expected to be finalized by the end of July. He notes that this is not the first time a school is hiring the father of an elite recruit, pointing to examples such as Kansas coach Bill Self hiring Ronnie Chalmers on his staff a few years ago to help secure Mario Chalmers.
