Virginia Commonwealth University head basketball coach Shaka Smart will hold a team meeting Thursday night, according to a report from ESPN.

The news comes the same day as reports surfaced that Smart would meet with Texas men's basketball program.

Texas parted ways with head coach Rick Barnes on Saturday.

The Austin-American Statesman reported Texas athletic director Steve Patterson would fly to Richmond, Va., Thursday afternoon.

The Associated Press reported that Texas hopes to introduce Smart on Friday.

Smart has coached VCU for the past six seasons, amassing a 163-56 overall record and five NCAA tournament appearances. The Rams made the NCAA tournament's Final Four in 2011.

VCU lost in the Round of 64 in this year's NCAA tournament to Ohio State
