Wednesday April 22nd, 2015

Class of 2015 five-star point guard Malik Newman has committed to Mississippi State.

Earlier this week, CBS Sports' Gary Parrish reported Newman was planning to announce his commitment to the Bulldogs on Friday.

Newman, a 6'4'' point guard from Jackson, Miss., is widely considered to be among the best high school seniors in the country. Rivals lists him as its No. 8 overall prospect, while Newman is also regarded by many to be the nation's top point guard.

As a senior, Newman averaged 29.7 points, 4.2 assists and 5.7 rebounds per game for Callaway High School, according to MaxPreps

Newman's father, Horatio Webster, played at Mississippi State in the 1990s.

Last month, Mississippi State hired former UCLA coach Ben Howland as its new men's basketball coach. Mississippi State finished 13-19 last season and subsequently fired coach Rick Ray.
