St. Joseph’s head coach Phil Martelli has agreed to a multi-year contract extension, the school announced Thursday. The school did not specify how many years the extension is for.
Martelli, 61, has coached at St. Joe’s since 1985 and has been the head coach since 1995. He has been named Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year four times in his career, most recently in 2005, and led the team to six NCAA tournament appearances.
The Hawks went 13–18 last season, their first losing season since 2010–11. They were picked seventh in the 14-team conference in the preseason coaches poll this season.
“My successes are directly related to the quality of people who have played for me. To each of them, I am forever grateful,” Martelli said in a statement. “Our players, staff, and administrators are wonderful people who care for the program and the University. Saint Joseph’s has always been the perfect place for my family and me.”
