In a wild finish, Butler upset No. 17 Cincinnati 78–76 on a buzzer-beating bank layup by Roosevelt Jones.

After the Bulldogs’ Kellen Dunham made two free throws with 17 seconds left for a 76-73 lead, the Bearcats were handed a chance to tie after Octavius Ellis was fouled on a made putback attempt. After Ellis sank the and-one, the Bulldogs quickly inbounded the ball and nearly threw it away before Jones recovered it around the top of the arc on a hustle play.

Jones dug it up, drove to his left, pulled up outside the restricted area and banked one in off the glass for the victory.

Dunham led Butler with 24 points, and Jones finished with 10 and five rebounds. The Bulldogs moved to 5–1, handing the Bearcats their first loss.

Ellis and Jacob Evans led the 7–1 Bearcats with 16 points apiece.
