Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo was named one of the 14 finalists for the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame on Friday.
The 61-year-old Izzo is in the midst of his 21st season with the eighth-ranked Spartans, during which he’s led them to a 20–5 record.
In his tenure at the helm of Michigan State’s program, Izzo has helped the Spartans to seven Final Four appearances and a national championship in 2000. The Spartans have also made 18 consecutive NCAA tournament appearances under Izzo.
An eight-time National Coach of the Year, Izzo is the second-winningest coach in Big 10 history with a 515–204 record.
The 2016 Hall of Fame class will be announced on April 4 in Houston.
