Kentucky's schedule is out, and it's appealing

Kentucky will have at least five consensus top-10 freshman entering the program in the fall, and it now officially has a schedule befitting that kind of potential talent. Kentucky's basketball Twitter account, @KentuckyMBB, officially revealed the composition of the Wildcats' non-SEC games for next season, and there's enough good stuff in there to satisfy any blueblood requirements.

Some of the games were known ahead of Wednesday's tweets, but the composite look is one of balance and quality. The Wildcats will be at North Carolina, will host Louisville and will play Michigan State in the Champions Classic in Chicago for a core of three really high-end games. They'll also play various (semi-)neutral site games against Baylor and Providence, and also snuck in a tasty home game with Boise State, which should be a preseason top-25 team in the fall.

There's some typical Rupp Arena cannon fodder in the front end of the schedule, but everyone's allowed a few gimmes, especially when you're integrating a bunch of freshmen. The Cats actually play twice (on Nov. 8 and 10) before taking on the Spartans on the 12th.

All in all, it's a challenging-enough slate with some choice matchups and a voluntary true road game at a top-10 team. It's everything I found lacking in Indiana's nonleague schedule this past season, so kudos to the Wildcats for understanding the role of a presumed elite team in scheduling, for us and for the program's own fans. We'll see what other programs follow suit in what should be a great season.
