COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- The World University Games roster was cut down to 16 players Wednesday morning, and one thing is very clear: Bob McKillop and his staff read One And One. Well, OK, maybe they just picked the best collection of talent and guys who make sense in combination.

Nonetheless, the 16-man group that will continue tryouts for the remainder of the week here includes all 10 guys I included on my preferred team Tuesday night, as well as my first guess for the extra rebounding big man as well as the "other" option at center.

Here's the full list of 16 players who will remain at the camp. The final team will have 12 players.

Spencer Dinwiddie, Colorado

Yogi Ferrell, Indiana

Davante Gardner, Marquette

Treveon Graham, VCU

Jerian Grant, Notre Dame

Luke Hancock, Louisville

Tyler Haws, BYU

Rodney Hood, Duke

Cory Jefferson, Baylor

Sean Kilpatrick, Cincinnati

Alex Kirk, New Mexico

Doug McDermott, Creighton

Adreian Payne, Michigan State

Chasson Randle, Stanford

Will Sheehey, Indiana

Aaron White, Iowa

Some thoughts on the newly cropped roster:

  • I had liked what Aaron White was providing Tuesday in terms of energy and effort, and seeing him this morning on a team playing alongside Alex Kirk peaked my interest. I wondered to Albuquerque beat writer Geoff Grammer whether they were taking a look at that combo for a reason, and it appears they were. White definitely earned his way to this point with his play here.

  • Sheehey's not a huge surprise to survive to this point, either. He's a consummate glue guy/leader for a team like this. For the same reason I thought Kendall Williams may stick around, Sheehey also had a significant chance of making at least this cut.

  • Of the two "outsider" selections, Graham is the less surprising of the two. I didn't see a lot from Grant in the 2+ practices I watched, but he fits the same swingman mold and obviously has proven himself at the college level.

  • Per USA Basketball, all 16 players remaining have a chance to make the final 12, so this is not a case where anyone is a designated alternate yet. Friday is the target date for cutdowns, but it could come earlier or later by a day, depending on how things shake out. I'm going to stick around for the late-afternoon practice today to see what things look like with fewer bodies.
