Report: Duke's Rodney Hood has recovered from Achilles scare

Duke's expected status as a primary ACC and national challenger took a scary turn in July, when Mississippi State transfer Rodney Hood suffered a right Achilles injury at the World University Games trials.

At the time, the injury didn't seem serious enough to cost Hood his season, but there was a thought he would at least be shelved for awhile, which would stunt his continued pre-season integration into Duke's lineup.

According to ESPN's Andy Katz, though, Hood is doing just fine.

"He is completely recovered," Duke associate coach Steve Wojciechowski told Katz. "He has participated in summer workouts."
Freshman phenom Jabari Parker may have the most hype coming into this season, but Hood, an explosive wing athlete, may very well end up being Duke's best player this season. Having him back healthy well in advance of even fall practice is a nice boost for the Blue Devils. They have their typically staunch nonconference schedule on tap in addition to a first season in the now super-powered ACC, so any added time the Devils have to piece together several newcomers should be a plus.
