Oklahoma State junior forward Michael Cobbins injured his left Achilles' tendon less than four minutes into Monday night’s 92-66 win over Robert Morris. On Tuesday, Cowboys coach Travis Ford announced Cobbins had torn the tendon and will undergo season-ending surgery.

"Our thoughts are with Michael, and we pray for a successful recovery," Ford said. "We know Michael will work extremely hard and be back next season, better than ever."

Cobbins, who has started all 13 games for no. 6 Oklahoma State this season, was averaging 4.5 points and 4.3 rebounds and a team-leading 1.5 blocks per game. This is a big loss for the Cowboys in the Big 12, having to battle teams with deep and talented frontcourts, such as no. 16 Kansas and no. 9 Baylor.

Ford will need to find a way to replace the interior presence Cobbins provided. Forwards Kamari Murphy (6.6 ppg, 6.2 rpg), Gary Gaskins (1.1, 1.4), Leyton Hammonds (1.3, 1.6) and Marek Soucek (0.6, 0.5) all could see their playing time increase.

After suffering the injury Monday night, Cobbins Tweeted, “Thank you for all of the prayers, love, and support! I have a great cowboy family behind me! Truly means a lot! #JustATest.”

Oklahoma State opens Big 12 play on Jan. 4 when it plays at Kansas State.
