USC and former assistant football coach Dave Watson have reached a settlement with Alaric Valentin, who filed a civil suit against the parties after a 2008 car crash with Watson. At the time of the crash, Watson was under the influence of prescription drugs provided by USC team doctors.

Watson, who had undergone rehabilitation for prescription drug dependency years earlier and admitted to then-USC coach Pete Carroll an ongoing dependency problem just prior to the accident, remains out of coaching after Carroll dismissed him following the 2008 season. Carroll had been subpoenaed as a witness in the case; he will now not have to testify. Terms of the settlement were not disclosed due to a confidentiality agreement.
