Texas Christian University's Devonte Fields will not be allowed to return to the football team in the wake of an arrest stemming from a misdemeanor assault warrant last month, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram's Mac Engel tweeted Tuesday. It is not known whether Fields will still be allowed to pursue academics at the school.

Fields was scheduled to meet with the school Tuesday to discuss his status at TCU going forward.

Fields, the 2012 Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year as a freshman and the pr-season Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year in 2014 was "separated" from the team last month after his ex-girlfriend accused him of striking her and threatening her with a firearm. Three days later, Fields surrendered to authorities on a misdemeanor assault warrant. He was not formally charged.

Horned Frogs coach Gary Patterson termed the incident "disappointing" and noted that the matter would be handled by police.
