Louisville named Will Gardner as the team's starting quarterback, the team announced Sunday night.

Gardner is a 6-foot-5, 224 pound redshirt sophomore from Douglas, Ga. Gardner replaces three-year starter Teddy Bridgewater, who left for the NFL after his junior season.

Gardner appeared in seven games last season, completing 8 of 12 passes for 112 yards and two touchdowns.

"I thought Will and outstanding fall camp," Louisville head coach Bobby Petrino said. "He demonstrated good decision-making and executed our offense."

Louisville opens the season against conference foe Miami on Sept. 1. The Hurricanes will also go with a first-time starter, tabbing freshman Brad Kaaya to start the season.
