Rice Owls vs. Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Notre Dame hosts Rice to kick off the 2014 season. Last year, the Irish went 9-4, including a win over Rutgers in the Pinstripe Bowl. Rice finished 10-4 last season and won Conference USA.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish facts

Everett Golson is back at quarterback this season after missing all of last year due to an academic suspension.

The team recently suspended five players, including starters in wide receiver DaVaris Daniels, cornerback KeiVarae Russell and defensive end Ishaq Moore, due to possible academic dishonesty violations.

Brian Kelly is the first head coach in school history to go to bowl games in each of his first four seasons.

The Fighting Irish are 4-0 all-time in August.

Notre Dame is 99-20-5 (.818) in home openers, including 66-16-2 (.798) at Notre Dame Stadium.

With the departure of Taylor McHargue, junior Driphus Jackson takes over as the starting quarterback this season.
