Davidson shuts out College of Faith-Charlotte 56-0

DAVIDSON, N.C. (AP) J.P. Douglas threw for three touchdowns and ran for another to help Davidson snap a 12-game losing skid with a 56-0 victory against College of Faith-Charlotte in the season opener for both teams on Saturday.

Douglas stacked up three touchdown passes for 8, 22, and 39 yards in the second quarter and Austin Wells added an 11-yard run for his first career touchdown to put Davidson up 43-0 at the half.

The Wildcats were 0-11 in the previous season and had not won at home since Nov. 19, 2011.

College of Faith's Travis Singleton connected with Charles Chestnutt on a 39-yard pass at the Davidson 36 with 1:38 left in the first, but penalties for holding, illegal formation, unsportsmanlike conduct and delay of game on ensuing plays forced the Saints to punt.

College of Faith-Charlotte, a Christian-based online school, was challenging an NCAA Division I opponent for the first time.
