Virginia Tech wide receiver Joshua Stanford is taking a leave of absence from the team, the school said in a news release on Tuesday.

The redshirt sophomore has caught five passes for 35 yards over three games this season. Stanford started 11 and played in all 13 games last season, recording 40 catches for 640 yards and one touchdown.

West Virginia football: CB Daryl Worley suspended indefinitely

Virginia Tech reportedly said in the release that Stanford is stepping away from the team to "take care of some personal issues."

The Hokies, which are 2-1 with wins over Ohio State and William & Mary and a loss to East Carolina, host Georgia Tech on Saturday.
