Dismissed Georgia DL Taylor enrolls at Alabama
Wednesday January 7th, 2015

Defensive lineman Jonathan Taylor has enrolled at Alabama, according to ESPN.

Taylor was dismissed by Georgia in July after being arrested on charges of felony assault and domestic battery. He spent the 2014 season at Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Wesson, Miss.

Police said that Taylor struck his girlfriend with a closed fist and choked her during a dorm room argument. He was also one of four Georgia players arrested and charged with "theft by deception" in March for cashing stipend checks twice.

Alabama athletic director Bill Battle said he had "extensive discussions" with several people very close to Taylor, as well as Taylor himself, before deciding to take him on the team.

"Our coaches and I feel he is worthy of a second chance at completing his college football career at this level, and that he fully understands the position in which he has placed himself," Battle said in a statement. "It's important to note that the young man will become a part of our program after going through an extensive process conducted by the university."

Taylor was indicted by a grand jury in November, and his attorney told ESPN he hopes the case will be presented to a grand jury again. His July arrest violated a pre-trial intervention program he had been placed in after the March arrest, and he now faces an April trial on two misdemeanor charges.

Taylor is a former four-star recruit. He had nine tackles and one sack in 10 games for Georgia as a redshirt freshman in 2013.
