Oregon struck first in Monday's national championship game, with Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Marcus Mariota throwing a touchdown to Keanon Lowe on the game's opening possession.

The Ducks went 75 yards on 11 plays in 2:39 to take a 7-0 lead.

It was Lowe's fifth touchdown reception of the season and Mariota's 41st touchdown pass.

Earlier on the drive, Oregon running back Thomas Tyner fumbled the ball but it bounced right back into his hands. Several plays later, Mariota appeared to lose a fumble but instant replay showed his knee was down.
