The school said Pollard was watching his daughters compete at a track meet at the University of Northern Iowa when the heart attack occurred. He was taken to a hospital for treatment, where he remained as of Tuesday morning.
Pollard, 50, has been the Cyclones' athletic director since 2005. Before that, he served as the deputy athletic director at Wisconsin.
Iowa State said senior associate athletics director David Harris will serve as the acting AD while Pollard recovers.
