Oklahoma running back Keith Ford will transfer, he announced Wednesday.

The rising junior carried 94 times for 526 yards and six touchdowns over two seasons with the Sooners.

Ford missed five games in 2014 with a leg injury suffered Sept. 6 against Tennessee. In March, he was suspended for academic and teams rules violations.

"The past 2 years with the Oklahoma Sooners has been a great experience, however after my injury last season I never fully recovered," Ford said in a statement. "Since that time I have had a chance to evaluate my role at OU with my family and have decided it is time to start a new chapter. Despite what the suspension was about I am currently academically eligible to transfer according NCAA rules to another university and have been given a full release by OU. I would like to thank Coach Stoops and Coach (Cale) Gundy for all of their support and I wish the Sooners the best of luck next season."

Ford fell down the depth chart amid the breakout of Samaje Perine, who rushed for 1,713 yards and 21 touchdowns as a freshman last year.

The running back, who was a five-star recruit out of Cypress, Texas, ranked 24th nationally in 247's composite rankings for the class of 2013.

Ford has not indicated where he plans to transfer.
