2015 College football season: The great unknown

Friday September 4th, 2015

The 2015 college football season began in earnest on Thursday night, with a trio of exciting matchups between teams from Power Five conferences. South Carolina edged North Carolina, TCU survived a tricky road game at Minnesota and Michigan stumbled at Utah in Jim Harbaugh's debut. The best part? That slate isn't nearly as intriguing as what's on tap this weekend.

Reigning national champion Ohio State will take on Virginia Tech, Arizona State and Texas A&M will meet in a battle of high-octane offenses at NRG Stadium in Houston and Wisconsin will try to upset Alabama at Jerry World. SI.com's team of college football writers—Andy Staples, Pete Thamel, Thayer Evans, Zac Ellis, Colin Becht, Lindsay Schnell, Brian Hamilton and Ben Glicksman—offers its picks for those games and more.

HAMILTON: Not perfect, but TCU passes tough test against Minnesota

STAPLES: Ugly opener against UNC reveals little about South Carolina

ROSENBERG: Harbaugh shows Michigan is headed in right direction
