The Miami Hurricanes are coming off a 45–0 win over Bethune-Cookman that only lasted 75 minutes due to lightning. It was Miami’s first shutout since their 2010 opener, when they beat Florida A&M, 45–0. True freshman running back Mark Walton rushed ten times for 85 yards and touchdown, while sophomore quarterback Brad Kaaya threw for 173 yards and two touchdowns.

FAU lost its opener to Tulsa 47–44 in an overtime thriller. The Owls were down 21-7 midway through the second quarter but jumped in front by 10 by the end of the third before relinquishing their lead. Sophomore running back Greg Howell carried the ball 22 times for 138 yards and two scores.
