USC opened its season in unsurprisingly dominant fashion against Arkansas State, with a 55–6 win spurred by quarterback Cody Kessler's four touchdown passes. Running back Tre Madden returned from last season's foot injury and looked impressive. The Trojans deployed 13 freshmen against Arkansas State, which could prove critical one way or the other in conference play—but this week's matchup with Idaho will allow them another chance to cut their teeth. A staunch defensive effort should carry over in what shouldn't be a particularly difficult matchup for USC.
Idaho allowed 45 points in last week's loss to Ohio and faces a much stiffer challenge in the Trojans. Receiver Dezmon Epps stood out in the loss, with 15 catches for 160 yards. The defensive effort must improve as the Vandals begin looking ahead to Sun Belt play.
