Miami Hurricanes linebacker Darrion Owens is out for the rest of the season with a knee injury.
Head coach Al Golden announced Sunday that Owens’s injury will require surgery, though he would not elaborate on the nature of the injury.
Owens, a sophomore outside linebacker, played in 12 of Miami’s 13 games as a true freshman last season, recording 23 total tackles.
“Tremendous young man and arguably one of our hardest workers,” Golden said, according to the Sun Sentinel. “We feel badly for him, but we have some guys that have to step up and we have to have the next man mentality and get that situated by the time we go back to work on Tuesday.”
Senior Tyriq McCord, who started 12 games last season, will take Owens’s spot in the starting lineup, Golden said.
