In a Week 3 win against UTSA, junior running back Chris Carson ran for 104 yards and two touchdowns and the Cowboys forced seven score-inducing turnovers. Oklahoma State sophomore quarterback Mason Rudolph went 17-for-23 with 280 yards and two touchdowns in the 69–14 rout.
Texas looks to bounce back after a disappointing one-point loss to Cal in Week 3. Despite freshman quarterback Jerrod Heard setting a school record with 527 total yards and leading a 20-point comeback to pull the Longhorns within one point of the Bears with 1:11 remaining in the fourth quarter, Texas lost on a shanked extra point by senior kicker Nick Rose.
Heard became the first Longhorns freshman quarterback since Colt McCoy in 2009 to throw for 300 yards and run for 100, as he finished with 364 and 163 yards, respectively.
