Mississippi State will honor freshman football player Keith Joseph Jr. and his father Keith Joseph Sr., who died in a one-car accident on Friday night, with a helmet decal.
Joseph Jr. was known to his teammates as “MJ.” The Bulldogs will wear the initials on their helmets when they take the field against No. 3 Alabama on Saturday at home.
They will also hold a memorial service on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. CT on campus at Humphrey Coliseum.
Joseph Jr. and Joseph Sr., who also played at Mississippi State from 1989–1992, were killed en route to a Pascagoula High School football game, the university announced on Friday.
“We are deeply saddened and heartbroken by the tragic loss of Keith Jr. and his father,” Mississippi State head coach Dan Mullen said in the university’s press release. “Keith had such a promising future as a Bulldog following in the legacy started by Keith Sr., who played for our program 25 years ago. Keith was a great student, a hard worker and a great teammate to all of us. With heavy hearts, our thoughts and prayers go out to the Joseph family, our entire Mississippi State community and all of the lives these Bulldogs touched.”
Kickoff between the Bulldogs and Crimson Tide is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET.
