FSU QB Everett Golson out for Peach Bowl, ending college career
Saturday December 26th, 2015

Florida State quarterback Everett Golson will not travel with the team to Atlanta for Thursday’s Peach Bowl, according to coach Jimbo Fisher, meaning the graduate transfer has played his final collegiate game.

Bruce Feldman of Fox Sports reports that Golson’s absence from the trip is due to the death of a very close family member. In his place, junior Sean Maguire will likely start.

Golson beat out Maguire for the starting job after transferring from Notre Dame, and led the Seminoles to a 6–0 start with 11 touchdown passes and no interceptions. He sat out the next two games after experiencing concussion-like symptoms before the team played Syracuse on Oct. 31, and returned to his starting role against NC State on Nov. 14. He had three turnovers, and was replaced once again by Maguire. He never regained his job.

Golson quarterbacked the Fighting Irish in their BCS Championship Game loss to Alabama in 2012. He missed 2013 due to academic issues, and returned to post a 131.0 passer rating in 13 games the following season.

He finishes the 2015 season with 1,778 yards and 11 touchdowns passing to go along with three interceptions..
