Wednesday December 30th, 2015

Baylor had a remarkable offensive showing in Tuesday’s 49–38 win over North Carolina in the Russell Athletic Bowl.

The Bears set an all-time bowl game record with 645 rushing yards, shattering Nebraska’s mark of 524 yards set in the 1996 Fiesta Bowl. Baylor gained 757 total yards, which ranks second all-time in bowl history. The 2011 edition of the Bears gained a record 777 yards in a win over Washington in the Alamo Bowl.

Sophomore Johnny Jefferson led the way with 299 yards and three touchdowns on 23 carries, which brought his season rushing total to an even 1,000 yards.

Behind him, junior Devin Chafin ran 29 times for 156 yards and a score, freshman Terence Williams gained 97 yards and scored twice and wideout Lynx Hawthorne added 63 and a touchdown on seven touches.

Quarterback Chris Johnson picked up 36 yards on the ground to go along with 82 yards through the air.

The two teams combined for 889 rushing yards, which is also an all-time bowl record.
