Nevada assistant head coach and wide receivers coach Jim Hofher is the new quarterbacks coach for Iowa State coach Matt Campbell, according to a source.

It’s a reuniting of Hofher and Campbell, who were offensive assistants together at Bowling Green in 2008. This past season was Hofher’s third in his positions at Nevada.

Before that, he was Delaware’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for four seasons after his year at Bowling Green as quarterbacks coach. He was coach at Buffalo from 2001–05, Syracuse’s quarterbacks coach in ’00 and North Carolina’s quarterbacks coach from 1998–99.

The 58-year-old Hofher was coach at his alma mater, Cornell, from 1990–97 after a year as Tennessee’s quarterbacks coach. He coached running backs at Syracuse from ’87–88 and had the same position at Wake Forest from ’83-86.

Hofher was quarterbacks and wide receivers coach at Miami (Ohio) from 1981–82 following two years as a graduate assistant at Wake Forest. He was a quarterback at Cornell from ’76–78.

The highly regarded Campbell became Iowa State’s coach last month after a 35–15 record in four seasons at Toledo, which includes a 9–2 mark this year. He replaces Paul Rhoads, who was fired last month amidst a 3–9 campaign. Rhoads had a 32-55 record in his seven seasons with the Cyclones.
