Ole Miss defensive tackle Breeland Speaks was arrested early Friday morning on a DUI charge, reports RebelGrove.com’s Neal McCready.
Speaks, a 20-year-old rising redshirt sophomore, was charged with a first offense DUI and released hours later.
“Breeland’s poor choice does not meet the expectations of our program, and there will be consequences,” coach Hugh Freeze said in a statement. “He and I have spoken, and he is very disappointed in himself and will accept whatever punishment that is handed down. We are very thankful he is safe and that this was not a life-altering decision. In these situations, we hope our young men learn from their mistakes and do not let the mistake define them.”
In his redshirt freshman season with Ole Miss, Speaks recorded 32 tackles, one sack and two pass break-ups for the 10–3 Rebels. He is expected to replace Robert Nkemdiche as a starter in 2016.
