Oklahoma senior safety Hatari Byrd has been dismissed from the program for a violation of team rules, head coach Bob Stoops announced Monday, according to The Oklahoman.
Stoops did not disclose the details of Byrd’s violation but noted that he would be permitted to transfer to another program.
“He’ll (transfer) with our blessing and make somebody a good hand,” Stoops said.
Byrd will have to sit out next season, but will have one year of eligibility remaining to use the following year.
Despite enrolling at Oklahoma as one of the Sooners’ top recruits, Byrd fell out of favor as other players earned starts over him. He started made his first starts during his junior season, but was benched after just two games.
In 30 games for the Sooners, Byrd made 49 tackles.
