Clemson was voted as the preseason favorite to repeat as ACC football champion, according to a poll of 191 media members.

Clemson is coming off a 14–1 season that included an appearance in the College Football Playoff National Championship game before losing 45–40 to Alabama. They were unbeaten in the regular season for the first time since winning the national title in 1981.

North Carolina has been voted as the favorite to win the Coastal Division title within the conference. The Tarheels finished the season 11–3 with an appearance in the Russell Athletic Bowl, which they lost to Baylor.

Clemson defeated North Carolina in the ACC championship game 45–37.

Clemson junior quarterback Deshaun Watson was voted as the favorite to take the ACC Player of the Year title for a second consecutive year. He finished last season with 35 touchdowns and 4,104 yards for the Tigers.
