Arizona running back Ka'Deem Carey was cleared of domestic violence charges by the city of Tuscon on Friday, the Arizona Daily Star reports.

Carey, who led the nation in rushing yards last season, was facing misdemeanor assault and disorderly conduct charges. Reports stated that Carey had been involved in a domestic violence incident with his pregnant ex-girlfriend last December.

Carey's attorneys released a statement to the Star concerning the dropped charges:

"We are very pleased with the City Attorney's decision to unilaterally dismiss the charges against Ka'Deem. Ka'Deem did nothing wrong and the City Attorney's determination to drop the case is an acknowledgement of that fact. It is unfortunate that this proper and obvious conclusion was not reached prior to the filing of the unjustified charges.

"With great humility, Ka'Deem thanks God for this correct outcome and extends his utmost gratitude to his family, friends, teammates, coaches and the entire Wildcat Nation for their unwavering support during this very difficult time. While Ka'Deem is thankful to be so thoroughly vindicated, he remains steadfastly focused on earning his degree and a successful 2013 football season."

This is obviously good news for Arizona, as Carey is the team's top big-play threat and one of its only proven offensive commodities heading into the fall. The Wildcats face an unresolved situation at quarterback with B.J. Decker and juco transfer Jesse Scroggins vying to replace the departed Matt Scott, and Arizona's leading receiver from 2012, Austin Hill, went down with a torn ACL this spring. Without Carey on offense, the Wildcats would have been hard-pressed to replicate their record-breaking scoring output from last season.

Carey paced the FBS with 1,929 rushing yards last year, setting school records for both yards and rushing touchdowns (23). He racked up 172 rushing yards and three scores in the Wildcats' 49-48 New Mexico Bowl win over Nevada.
