Norcross (Ga.) High defensive end Lorenzo Carter is ranked as the No. 5 overall recruit in the class of 2014, according to Rivals.com. Carter is one of the state of Georgia's most sought after prospects, as he's fielded more than 30 scholarship offers to date. He certainly enjoyed a standout junior campaign: Carter racked up 136 tackles and 18 sacks while leading the Blue Devils to a 15-0 record and state Class 6A championship in 2012.

The 6-foot-5, 235-pounder has yet to commit, but he's kept a crop of SEC squads at the top of his wish list. SI.com caught up with Carter to chat about his recruitment, his senior year and more.

SI: To begin with, how has your summer been so far?

Lorenzo Carter: It's been good. I've just been getting up early and working out. But I can’t complain. I’m having a lot of fun.

SI: The recruiting process can be a whirlwind, especially for a five-star prospect. What's the experience been like for you?

Carter: I’m enjoying it. But I’m not letting the pressure be too much for me. I'm just trying to have fun and keep my parents involved.

SI: How big is the list of schools you're considering?

Carter: Right now it’s probably at about eight or nine schools.

SI: You've previously said that Alabama and Georgia were your early leaders. Is that still the case?

Carter: Yeah, Georgia and Alabama for sure. But so is Florida now.

SI: You grew up a short drive from Georgia's campus. Were you raised a Bulldogs fan?

Carter: Not really. I actually liked Miami a lot, but that was mainly because of their colors. (Laughs)

SI: Which head coaches have impressed you during the recruiting process?

Carter: Coach Mark Richt, of course, stood out because he’s a good man and a good coach. And I also liked coach Will Muschamp a lot.

SI: Your former teammate at Norcross, running back Alvin Kamara, signed with Alabama as part of its 2013 class. Has Alvin tried to convince you to join him in Tuscaloosa?

Carter: With Alvin, it’s just like any other recruiting I’m going through. A lot of players at places are trying to get me to come to their schools. The only difference is, he’s my old teammate. But he wasn’t even on campus when I’ve visited Alabama.

SI: Which NFL players do you try to model your game after?

Carter: I really like Julius Peppers, DeMarcus Ware and Osi Umenyiora. They’re just great pass-rushers who can get to the quarterback. Peppers especially is a great athlete. I feel like if I can work at it, I can get my body to his type and keep playing fast.

SI: You still have one more season of high school football remaining. Which parts of your game do you want to improve before you get to college?

Carter: I need to work on my strength and getting off the ball faster. If I can keep the weight off, I can get even faster.
