Quarterback Jameis Winston named Florida State Seminoles starter

The wait is finally over: Jameis Winston will be the Florida State Seminoles starting quarterback to open the season, per an announcement by FSU coach Jimbo Fisher on Friday. Winston impressed in camp (and in media days) with his athleticism and poise despite being just a redshirt freshman and beat out sophomore Jacob Coker.

There were plenty of questions about who would start for the 'Noles coming into camp, as previous starter E.J. Manuel was drafted by the Buffalo Bills and Clint Trickett transferred to West Virginia.

Winston has plenty of buzz, and for good reason. He's the type of player you want to build a program around. He looks like he has fun, he can make any play into a highlight, and he looks like he could step onto any athletic field and immediately dominate. Just look at this baseball throw:

The only concern is how he'll be able to handle the hype, but having played in big-time baseball games in the spring may alleviate those concerns a bit. He certainly looks and acts the part of a starting quarterback. The defense is slotted to be one of the best in the nation, so if Winston can acclimate himself to the role without making too many gamechanging mistakes, the Seminoles could be in for a big year.
