will start for Michigan State in Week 1. Probably. We think. (Christian Petersen/Getty Images)
Seeing as not naming a starting quarterback has basically become the college football equivalent of Auto-Tune, Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio is jumping in on the trend. While the Spartans' recently released depth chart had four different quarterbacks listed and none as the No. 1, Dantonio clarified on Tuesday, stating that Andrew Maxwell is the starter.
Who knows what to believe at this point? Dantonio did put a bunch of "OR"s on the depth chart, and the Spartans' quarterback situation is tenuous at best.
Mind games are being played all over college football, and the depth chart is just another way to get inside an opposing coach's head. Of course, it's better to have a clear-cut starter than a bunch of maybes (or "OR"s), but that wouldn't be nearly as much fun, would it?
Maybe Oregon should recruit the Fox robot and add it to the depth chart, just so Marcus Mariota
doesn't feel left out.
