Six Florida players will miss Saturday's season-opening meeting with Toledo because of suspensions stemming from disciplinary issues, the Gainesville Sun reports.

Among the six players are starting cornerback Loucheiz Purifoy and backup wide receiver Latroy Pittman, both of whom are sidelined due to failed drug tests, sources told the Palm Beach Post. The other suspended players are all backups: Defensive tackles Darious Cummings and Jay-nard Bostwick and offensive lineman Quinteze Williams.

Starting middle linebacker Antonio Morrison is the sixth suspension, but his status had been previously announced in July after two offseason arrests.

Both Purifoy and Morrison were expected to be major contributors on defense to start the season. Senior Jaylen Watkins was listed as a co-starter alongside Purifoy in a depth chart released by Florida on Monday and is the likely answer at corner, while Michael Taylor will step in at middle linebacker for Morrison. But less experience on defense might not be a good thing for the Gators as they face Toledo, which has gone to three straight bowl games thanks to major improvement on offense under coach Matt Campbell.
