Top 2014 offensive line recruit Cameron Robinson chooses Alabama

Alabama's already impressive group of offensive line commitments became even deeper on Wednesday, when Louisiana left tackle Cameron Robinson committed to the Crimson Tide.

Robinson, Rivals.com's No. 1 offensive line prospect and No. 3 overall prospect in the class of 2014, announced his commitment live on ESPNU. He chose Alabama over LSU, his home-state program as a player at West Monroe (La.) High. The Tigers were the only other program he'd considered during his recruitment.

According to Rivals, Robinson made several trips between Tuscaloosa and Baton Rouge. He spent four days on Alabama's campus in June, and he returned to Tuscaloosa for the Tide's final preseason scrimmage in August.

Alabama currently holds the No. 1 class of 2014 in Rivals' rankings, and while the Tide have signed five of the site's last six top recruiting classes, Nick Saban often missed out on top-10 overall players. Saban has only signed five top-10 players since becoming the Tide's head coach: Julio Jones (No. 4 overall, 2008), D.J. Fluker (No. 3, 2009), Trent Richardson (No. 6, 2009), Cyrus Kouandjio (No. 4, 2011) and Ha Ha Clinton-Dix (No. 7, 2011).

The Crimson Tide's 2013 offensive line includes three new starters -- left guard Arie Kouandjio, center Ryan Kelly and right tackle Austin Shepherd -- and did not perform particularly well in the team's season-opening win against Virginia Tech. The line paved the way for only 96 rushing yards.

Robinson is the sixth offensive line commitment in Alabama's 2014 class.
