Charles Barkley won't be rooting for Johnny Manziel when No. 6 Texas A&M welcomes No. 1 Alabama to College Station on Saturday.
Barkley, an Auburn alum, told ESPN Radio 1000 in Chicago that despite his background as a fan of the Tigers, he's likely to pull for the rival Crimson Tide this weekend because of the Aggies' high-profile quarterback.
"Johnny Manziel, he's doing something I never thought was possible. He's going to make me root for Alabama this weekend.
"I never thought I would say those words. I am so close to saying 'Roll Tide.' Johnny Manziel is annoying me so much. I'm really close to saying 'Roll Tide.'"
Barkley was reminded that Auburn fans wouldn't be happy with his statement.
"They're not going to be happy," Barkley admitted. "But let me tell you something. Johnny Manziel, oh my God, the only thing saving Manziel is Miley Cyrus ... I just think that Johnny Manziel has done a lot of stupid stuff in the last three or four months."
Barkley is no stranger to criticizing Manziel. In July he joined a roundtable discussion on Birmingham's WJOX radio, saying he preferred Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron's leadership to Manziel's.
"Manziel is a better player," Barkley explained. "McCarron is a better leader. Manziel is a terrific player, but as far as being a leader, AJ McCarron has done a fantastic job. He's under so much pressure. To be the Alabama quarterback, back-to-back national championships, the pressure that comes with that to have a good game every week, he's handled it amazingly."
