Rivalries are the absolute best. Last week, someone skywrote (is that the appropriate past tense term?) all over East Lansing and other parts of Michigan, including writing "GO BLUE" above Spartan Stadium before Michigan State's game vs. Youngstown State in Week 3.
So who did it? An overzealous fan? An alumni group? A message board?
Nope. The Michigan athletic department. From MLive:
Suzanne Asbury-Oliver, who runs Oregon Aero SkyDancer skywriting with her husband Steve, said the Wolverines' athletic department hired her business to put Michigan slogans into the air above Ann Arbor then East Lansing on Saturday.
Michigan athletic department spokesperson Dave Ablauf acknowledged his department paid for Saturday's skywriting but said no specific locations were targeted.
This is some old-school, truly smart rivalry trolling. Billboards are so 2000-and-late. Next thing you know someone'll be canvasing a car and yelling "ROLL TIDE" out a bullhorn down the street in Auburn or Washington State will pay for a sponsorship on Seattle radio.
