The College Football Playoff expects to name its selection committee by the end of the 2013 season, George Schroeder of USA Today reports.

At BCS meetings in Rosemont, Ill. this week, College Football Playoff executive director Bill Hancock confirmed that the selection committee, which will likely be comprised of 12-20 members, should be finalized by the end of the current regular season.

Hancock told reporters that he already contacted dozen of individuals for potential spots on the committee, which will select the four teams to participate in the new playoff, which begins after the 2014 season. The general response has been positive, Hancock said.

"Everyone I've called has been excited and appreciative. It really has been affirming. It's not surprising, but people want to be on this committee and they're happy to be considered."

In a statement, Hancock said BCS commissioners are making progress on the committee's selection.

"Everything is on target for the playoff. Of course, a BCS champion will be crowned this year, and we are focused on that this fall.

"Our process to have the selection committee in place is right on schedule. We have several remaining issues to be discussed with potential members (time commitment, travel requirements, etc.) and there is still additional vetting to be done. Once that process is complete, we look forward to sharing the names of those who will serve.

"It's very exciting that we're at this stage and it's important we have the right people with both the knowledge and the time available to do this right. But we are right on schedule and we also look forward to this final season of the BCS."
