The names of several potential members of the College Football Playoff selection committee leaked this week, and one name stood out above many others. The Associated Press reported that former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is expected to be named to the committee, which will select the four teams that will participate in the sport's upcoming playoff.
But according to one ESPN college football analyst, Rice doesn't belong on that committee.
On Saturday's ESPN College Gameday broadcast, David Pollack described his preferred criteria for those considered for the committee, criteria that included actual football experience. Host Chris Fowler asked Pollack if that meant women shouldn't be allowed to serve on the committee.
"Now I'm going to stick my foot in my mouth, probably," Pollack said. "I want people on this committee, guys, that can watch tape, yes, that have played football, that are around football, that can tell you different teams, on tape, not on paper--"
"So no woman belongs on the committee, then?" said Fowler.
"You said that ... I'll say it, yeah. Yeah," said Pollack."
Pollack's comments caught plenty of flack on social media, including a dig from ESPN sideline reporter Samantha Ponder.
Would love to hear a response to David Pollack from Debbie Yow or Julie Hermann.— Mark Ennis (@MarkEnnis) October 5, 2013

According to David Pollack's logic, you shouldn't be allowed to judge BBQ competitions if you've never been a brisket.— Ryan Nanni (@celebrityhottub) October 5, 2013
Ok David Pollack... no women voting on football? Then no men voting on/legislating women's rights...reproductive, or otherwise. Deal?— Jackie Mesa Pepper (@Jackie_Pepper) October 5, 2013
Still, some folks had a different view.
Sorry, just hearing Pollack's comments. That's on Fowler. He should get killed for that.— Isaac (@WorldofIsaac) October 5, 2013
Pollack says he doesn't want ignorant people, Fowler makes the jump to women. That's on him. Embarrassing, bc I thought Fowler was a pro— Isaac (@WorldofIsaac) October 5, 2013
