TCU defensive end Devonte Fields will have foot surgery and take a medical redshirt this season, Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
Field suffered a broken foot Sept. 12 against Texas Tech, and he missed the following game against SMU and last weekend's game against Oklahoma. The sophomore also missed the team's opener against LSU and played only a quarter the next week against Southeastern Louisana while serving a suspension for violation team rules over the summer.
Against the Red Raiders -- his only full game of the season -- Fields recorded three total tackles for the Horned Frogs. Fields was expected to be a major contributor to TCU's defense after starting all 13 games as a freshman last season. He recorded 53 tackles, 18.5 tackles for loss and 10 sacks, garnering Big 12 Defensive Freshman of the Year honors and landing on the All-Big 12 First Team.
