Tennessee and Virginia Tech have agreed to play a football game at Bristol Motor Speedway in Bristol, Tenn. during the 2016 season, Bruce Feldman of CBSSports.com reports. An official announcement is expected on Monday.

The matchup, which has been in discussion for many years, would take place at a venue that sits only a two-hour drive from both Knoxville and Blacksburg. Feldman reports that it would be the first regular-season game between the two programs since 1937.

A UT spokesperson would not confirm the news to the Knoxville News Sentinel's Evan Woodbery, but Woodbery reports that Bristol Motor Speedway has scheduled a press conference for Monday for a "major announcement."

There have been rumblings of a potential meeting between the Vols and Hokies at Bristol for some time. In 2005, Speedway Sports owner Bruton Smith offered both schools $20 million to play the game at Bristol, but scheduling conflicts preventing the matchup from taking shape.

Bristol Motor Speedway boasts a capacity of 160,000 fans, which would constitute the largest college football crowd in history. It would shatter the current record of 115,109, set this season during Michigan's game against Notre Dame at Michigan Stadium on Sept. 7.
