NC State redshirt senior safety Jarvis Byrd will miss the rest of the 2013 season after suffering the third torn ACL of his career, Wolfpack coach Dave Doeren announced on Tuesday.

"Jarvis is a true champion," said Doeren said in a statement. "This team and staff love him as a brother and respect him as a leader. It is so unfortunate that a player like Jarvis, who has been through two other ACL surgeries, has to endure another. I know that he will have a tremendous attitude and will use all the support available to him to have a healthy recovery."

Byrd started as a true freshman in 2009 before suffering his first torn ACL against North Carolina. After missing the 2010 season rehabbing his knee, Byrd suffered a second torn ACL during 2011 summer workouts, missing that season. He only played four games in 2012 thanks to other injuries.

Byrd started NC State's first five games this season, tallying 17 tackles. He was injured during the Wolfpack's game against Wake Forest on Oct. 5.
